Dual Concentric

The Prestige Gold Reference Dual Concentric™ marks a significant leap forward in the technology and performance of this classic Tannoy driver technology. At the top of Tannoy’s new Prestige GR range the 15” GR Duals have a new fibre/paper pulp cone material to realise further improvements in the cone’s mechanical characteristics. Modern imaging technology allows incredibly detailed analysis of cone mechanics under load and has resulted in the stiffest, lightest 15” GR cone to date.

A new HF compression driver diaphragm has been developed for all Prestige GR models that feature Tannoy’s Alnico powered motors and Pepperpot Waveguide™. Fitted to the Kensington GR, Canterbury GR and Westminster Royal GR, the new diaphragm is a heat treated aluminium alloy material with Mylar™ surround. It delivers exceptional clarity and articulation throughout the HF range and gives Prestige GR models even greater naturalness and presence.

Termination Panel

The Prestige terminal panel has been significant upgraded for the Gold Reference series. The new panel is a self-damping polymer compound with luxury high-gloss finish and it is fitted with low-loss gold plated speaker binding posts. The flagship Westminster Royal GR, Canterbury GR and Kensington GR are fitted with WBT’s NextGen™ WBT-0703 speaker posts for the ultimate in low-loss highly secure cable termination.

Tannoy’s unique fifth speaker terminal can be connected to the amplifier to electrically ground the driver chassis, dramatically reducing radio frequency interference in the system. Eliminating this RF ‘noise’ further enhances midrange clarity and opens up presence region for truly expressive music presentation. All GR models are designed for Bi-Wiring or Bi-Amping as standard, with low-loss jumper cables supplied for those wishing to single-wire their Prestige Gold Reference loudspeakers.

Crossover

Major revisions to the GR Dual Concentric™ drivers and findings from the Kingdom Royal development project have resulted in crossover improvements across the new Prestige GR series. Tannoy custom-specification ICW ClarityCap™ MR capacitors are used in the Westminster Royal GR, Canterbury GR and Kensington GR models, with PTFE insulated 99.99% single strand silver leadout wires. Revised low loss laminated core inductors and thick film resistors are used throughout the GR series, chosen for their ability to resolve micro dynamic detailing.

One of the most significant performance advances achieved during Kingdom Royal development project was the widespread use of Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT) on the crossover and cabling components. From Kensington GR models and upwards, the entire crossover board is subject to full DCT after final assembly. While this process is complex and expensive, the improvements in musical cohesion and smoothness made it an essential part of the Prestige GR upgrade.

High Frequency
Power Switch

Each Prestige GR loudspeaker is fitted with High Frequency power controls to tailor the sound to the room or your listening preferences. Beneath the grille and mounted on a solid aluminium panel, there are high-quality gold-plated pins allowing fine adjustment of Treble Energy. The Energy control has five positions offering +/-3 dB trim to the energy output of the HF compression driver over a frequency band approximately 1 kHz to 27 kHz.

On selected models you will also find a treble Roll Off control. This control has five positions (+2, level, -2, -4 and -6 dB/octave) and provides adjustment at extremely high frequencies of 5 kHz and above. Both HF power controls can be set to produce their flattest frequency response by setting the switches to ‘level.’ These finely balanced controls allow Prestige GR users to precisely tailor their listening experience without introducing any potential distortion than can result of using an amplifier’s ‘tone’ controls.
