Seven generations in the making, Mercury 7 is the latest in the long line of TANNOY’s multi-award winning Mercury loudspeaker series. Improved and refined across a raft of key design areas, Mercury 7 delivers outstanding music and movie performance, best-in-class finish and exceptional value for money.
Mercury’s proven braced fibreboard construction has been enhanced with TANNOY Differential Materials Technology (DMT) to create the series most acoustically neutral cabinets to date. New Mercury 7 drivers include high performance mid/bass units in 127 mm (5 inch), 152 mm (6 inch) and potent 178 mm (7 inch) versions, each fitted with a new smooth profile cone, long throw rubber surround and massive motor assembly. The new 28 mm (1.1 inch) Mercury 7 soft dome tweeter uses a powerful neodymium motor for a smooth frequency response out to over 32 kHz. The result is the best Mercury yet, with high power handling, incredible detail and unrivalled musical engagement at the price.
To make the latest generation of Mercury even better than the award-winning Mercury Vi series required completely new driver designs. The new Mercury 7 mid/bass drivers are significantly larger than previous models, enabling them to deliver deeper bass with greater punch than any competitor design. Now fitted in 127 mm (5 inch), 152 mm (6 inch) and potent 178 mm (7 inch) versions depending on model, each has a significantly larger motor to handle the increased power and retain TANNOY’s signature high efficiency principle.
The new Mercury 7 cone uses an updated version of TANNOY’s proprietary multi-fibre cone material with a smoothly sculpted profile for better dispersion and more accurate midrange reproduction. The light and stiff cone delivers fast, tight bass while the new computer optimised rubber surround provides exceptionally high excursion without over-damping the cone.
Utilising TANNOY’s proven heavyweight fibreboard construction substantially bonded and braced, Mercury 7 cabinets are the series’ most acoustically neutral enclosures to date. By creating a rigid, low resonant foundation for the drivers, has always been the starting point for Mercury models, ensuring reduced cabinet colouration giving a natural and more spacious sound.
The new cabinets also boast extensive use of TANNOY’s Differential Materials Technology (DMT) compound. Used in critical areas, such as driver to cabinet interface and crossover component mounts, this high tech material damps unwanted vibrations and further reduce colouration. As with DMT application in TANNOY’s luxury and Prestige loudspeaker ranges, the treatment delivers a crisper, more open sound with enhanced detail and micro-dynamics. The cabinets are the Mercury series’ most acoustically neutral enclosures to date.
